Middle Persian refers to several Iranian dialects of the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family. It was certainly in use from the 3rd century BC to the 7rd century AD and is attested mainly in later copies. The texts include Zoroastrian literature, Manichean religious texts, Christian texts attested in the Pahlavi Psalter  but also secular compositions –  legal documents, translations etc.
