The project Adjective valence database is a project supported by the Charles University Prague, Faculty of Arts, in years 2015 – 2016. It comprises project members among whom are students of particular languages as well as academics.
It carries out a cross-linguistic comparison of valence types in a number of ancient languages of several language families. Its outcome is the Adjective valence database online and a monograph Adjective valence in ancient languages (Baar Verlag Hamburg 2017), both edited by Dita Frantikova. The monograph contains chapters on individual languages written by the project members.
Both the volume contributions and the database contributions are based on a database questionnaire where the authors sought examples for different types of adjective valence. The editor made sure that the datasets conformed to the database manual and were internally consistent. The contributors were also asked to provide fully glossed and translated examples of each valence type. They summarised the overview on adjectives in individual languages, their findings and interesting facts concerning the valence in the articles of the printed volume.
